Texas, a\u00f1o 1870. John O’ Hanlan (James Stewart), un cowboy<\/em> errante, recibe una carta en la que se le notifica que ha heredado de su hermano un negocio llamado El Club Social de Cheyenne<\/em> en Wyoming. Pensando que por fin podr\u00e1 dejar atr\u00e1s su dura vida itinerante, establecerse y sentar cabeza, John emprende viaje hasta Cheyenne para reclamar la propiedad junto con su amigo Harley Sullivan (Henry Fonda), su compa\u00f1ero de andanzas durante diez a\u00f1os. Una vez all\u00ed, se entera de que el Club Social de Cheyenne es en realidad un burdel regentado por la atractiva Madame Jenny (Shirley Jones). John se queda consternado y toma la decisi\u00f3n de cerrar el local para convertirlo en una pensi\u00f3n. Cuando los ciudadanos de Cheyenne tienen conocimiento de los planes de John, intentan convencerlo de que conserve el prost\u00edbulo tal y como est\u00e1. Pero las negociaciones se ven interrumpidas cuando John averigua que Jenny ha sido golpeada por Corey Bannister (Robert J. Wilke), un sujeto de mala fama. John lo desaf\u00eda a un duelo y lo mata. De pronto, John y Harley descubren que todo el clan de los Bannister viene a por ellos, as\u00ed que tendr\u00e1n que defenderse y proteger a las chicas del \u201cclub social\u201d.<\/p>\n
