Leonora Fiske (Isobel Elsom), una antigua actriz retirada, vive en una aislada mansi\u00f3n en el campo junto a Ellen (Ida Lupino), su dama de compa\u00f1\u00eda, y otra joven criada. Un d\u00eda, Ellen decide traer a sus dos hermanas de visita y convence a su se\u00f1ora para que puedan quedarse por un tiempo en la casa, ya que han sido expulsadas de su anterior vivienda debido a su extra\u00f1o comportamiento. A partir de entonces la vida de la se\u00f1ora Fiske cambia por completo y, poco a poco, las tres hermanas comienzan a hacerse due\u00f1as de la situaci\u00f3n.
